Scotland Motorcycle Tour: Highlands & Whisky Trail

Your Scotland motorcycle tour begins at the Geismühle Ost service area or directly at the Ijmuiden-Newcastle ferry connection. Since it's a night ferry, you arrive rested in the northeast of England the next morning.

After the breakfast buffet on the ferry, this Highlands motorcycle tour takes you past the Roman Hadrian's Wall and the Kielder Water reservoir to the border with Scotland. You continue through the Scottish Borders to your first hotel in Edinburgh, where there's time for a short old town visit before dinner.

On the way to your first base hotel in Ballater in the Cairngorms National Park, you visit Edradour, the smallest of Scotland's whisky distilleries, and cross the Cairnwell Pass, the highest tarred pass in Great Britain.

Today's day tour is all about castles and stones: Dunnottar Castle, the Easter Aquhorthies stone circle, the Maiden Stone and Craigievar Castle are on the program - and of course winding roads right in the middle of the Cairngorms National Park.

Through the Cairngorms National Park and the Highlands, you pass several distilleries on your way to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, where your second base hotel awaits and you can optionally visit the Glenfiddich Distillery.

Inverness and the surrounding area offer plenty of sights. For those who don't want to sit entirely still, we offer a short Loch Ness round trip of about 100 kilometers - the rest of the day is yours to spend as you like.

Today you leave Inverness and ride over numerous single track roads into the sparsely populated northwest of the Highlands to your next hotel in Ullapool. The west coast impresses with its many sea lochs.

A good stretch takes you down the west coast to your third base hotel in Fort William. The highlight of the day is a visit to Eilean Donan Castle, the ancestral seat of Clan Macrae and a well-known filming location for the movie Highlander.

Today the Isle of Mull motorcycle stage is on the program, including winding coastal roads. Along the way you stop at the Glenfinnan Viaduct, known from several Harry Potter films, when the Hogwarts Express crosses the bridge.

On the way back east to your next hotel in Cumbernauld, your Scotland motorcycle tour crosses the Trossachs National Park with its dense forests and quiet lochs - a relaxed close to the Highland stages.

The final stage in Scotland leads back to Newcastle upon Tyne, from where the Ijmuiden-Newcastle ferry takes you back toward Holland. Beforehand you enjoy winding roads through the Borders and northeast England once more.
