The Transfăgărășan opens for only a few months a year, lower Carpathian regions are rideable for longer.

The Transfăgărășan and other high Carpathian passes are usually snow-free only from late June to early October – outside that window they remain closed. The lower Carpathian regions in Transylvania and the west can be ridden from May through to early October.
